President Rodrigo Duterte recently announced an increase in the allowances of Filipino athletes and coaches. A great news for these people who will be participating at the Summer Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this coming August.

The announcement was made on Monday, July 18, during the Philippine delegation’s send-off ceremonies in Malacanang.  

Previously, athletes only received $1,000 each, but now, Duterte increased it to $3,000, and the coaches will receive $5,000.

Below is a list posted on Facebook of the athletes that are going to be participating in the Rio Olympics before meeting with President Duterte.  And they are:

1. Eric Shawn Cray: Athletics – 400m Hurdles
2. Rogen Landon: Boxing – Men’s Light Fly 46-49 kilograms
3. Charly Suarez: Boxing – Men’s Light 60kg
4. Kirstie Elaine Alora: Taekwondo – Women’s +67kg
5. Ian Lariba: Table Tennis – Women’s singles
6. Hidilyn Diaz: Weightlifting – Women’s 53kg
7. Mary Joy Tabal: Athletics – Women’s Marathon
8. Nestor Colonia: Weightlifting – Men’s 56kg
9. Marestella Torres-Sunang: Athletics – Women’s Long Jump
10. Miguel Tabuena: Golf – Men’s Individual

There are those who are still on the qualifying events. They are:
