Two Quezon City cops PO1 Ronald Clarin and PO1 Edgar Allan Co of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 6 in Batasan were arrested for trying to get extortion money from the family of a drug suspect. They were arrested by their colleagues during an entrapment operation.

The two policemen were caught in the act receiving a sum of P10,000 from the suspect’s family. The family filed an extortion complaint against PO1 Clarin and PO1 Co with the help of Batasan police station commander Supt. Lito Patay. The suspect’s family said that they already gave P5,000 to PO3 Angelito Resureccion, their cohort. And since then, Resureccion did not report for work anymore.

The complainants said that the two policemen asked for P15,000 for them to drop the case against the suspect that they’ve arrested. The two cops’ arrest happened just at the back of the police station.

Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde, National Capital Region Police Office director said that what they did to PO1 Clarin and PO1 Co was just a taste of the President’s directive of cleansing the police ranks. He said, “We do not tolerate extortion among our men and we are serious about our internal cleansing efforts.” Policemen would be sanctioned if found guilty of illegal drug involvement.

The two policemen would be charged with robbery-extortion. Not only that, an administrative case would be filed against them for grave misconduct and serious irregularity in the performance of duty. Seven years of imprisonment and dismissal from the service are what awaits them should they be found guilty.
